The research unit IDEA at the University of Lorraine (Nancy, France) organises a series of international symposiums and conferences devoted to "the afterlives of literary classics", particularly of English-language texts. This pluri-annual, interdisciplinary project aims at exploring the different ways in which literary classics have been reinterpreted and reimagined across time, space, cultures and media, and at better understanding the phenomenon of literary afterlives.
The first symposium took place on 14 November 2025. It was entitled:
The second symposium took place on 27 March 2026. It was entitled:
"The Afterlives of Literary Classics (2): Visual and Material Re-interpretations and Re-imaginings."
An international conference will follow in April 2027. It will be devoted to:
"Literary Afterlives and Literary Afterlife/ves Studies: Towards a New Discipline".
